  • Every time you connect to the internet, you interact with ICANN, which manages a stable and secure addressing system. 
  • It operates as a multi-stakeholder corporation, with various stakeholders coming together to determine policies for effective Internet functioning. 
  • Without ICANN, the internet would not operate as it does today, as it plays a central role in ensuring global communication and connectivity.

08:33- To what extent do recent conflicts in the world impact the functioning of ICANN? How does it affect you as a board member, if at all?

  • In some ways, conflicts do have an impact, while in other ways they don’t. 
  • ICANN’s role is not to dictate government actions but to ensure the availability and accessibility of the internet globally. 
  • While conflicts may lead to fragmentation and data policies, they do not directly impact ICANN’s responsibility for the addressing system. 
  • However, they can impact individuals on the ground, such as internet shutdowns and restricted access to data.
