Overview

We set a lot of expectations for ourselves and for others also but what we do not realize is that these expectations often become poison. Health problems are increasing in the world and the same is the case with mental health. In fact, loneliness is said to be as bad as smoking 15 cigarettes in a day. Today we have Miriam with us to tell us more about mental health.

03:22- What are some mental health challenges that the world is facing?

  • One of the things is not really a challenge but the surrounding perception that people believe it is something negative.
  • There is a sort of taboo around this topic and people think that mental health issues are something that a sick or unhealthy person has.
  • This perception then creates more problems as the people start getting lack confidence and cannot get proper treatment.

12:51- Why do you think we are seeing increased cases of mental health in children?

  • One of the reasons is isolation and stress because children often isolate themselves and cannot talk about their mental health in a healthy manner.
  • Also, some children lose family members and their families are broken they do not get proper guidance to get through that trauma which leads them down the path of depression.
  • Also, our education system is not built to cater to different types of people. Our education system is linear but humans are not.

17:48- What is a burnout cycle and how can we break it?

  • I personally believe that life is not linear. I see life resembling a video game where you get to the next level when you clear the current level.
  • I believe there are three fragments of a healthy cycle – setting a realistic goal, having the energy to go after it, and having room for failure.
  • What usually happens is we often go round and round in this cycle, and often we develop a sense of inadequacy inside our own mind which is actually self-destructive.
