Overview
We can influence our destiny to a great extent through what we do today. In any organization, there should be a good integration of the people working at different hierarchies. Making a vision into reality for any organization is largely dependent on the leadership qualities they have instilled in their culture. Today we talk to Vidusha about his views on this topic.
00:35 – About Vidusha Nathavitharana
- I have always been an explorer, a dreamer, and an adventurer.Â
- I am rarely content with what has been accomplished and revel in seeking out a challenge.Â
- I am ambitious – not for ambition’s sake but because pitting myself against a challenge betters me on a daily basis.
01:03 – How do you define the term Founder and Destiny Architect?
- The founder is the easy term and I just happened to stumble upon it. But before I became the Destiny Architect I like to call myself the cheerleader of the organization because that’s what I thought I was doing for the organization.
- We did not like the traditional hierarchy system, so we started to name the designation of our people according to the role that each of us play.
- When I stepped down I started calling myself the Destiny Architect because that’s what I thought my role was for my organization.
03:14 – What makes a good leader and are they born or trained?
- Leadership as I see it is a verb and not a noun. I take a pluralistic perspective on leadership rather than an individualistic perspective.
- If you think of leadership as a process and not a title, you take the onus of leadership and distribute it among many others.
- We call people at the top our leaders but the people that are working on the ground level also play leadership roles we call them followers. I think the terms leadership and followership are interchangeable.
05:55 – What are the qualities that a good leader is supposed to have?
- It can be conceptualized according to the position that you have in a hierarchy. The senior levels should try to create an ecosystem and culture where they can enable leadership across the organization.
- Middle management should try to focus on what you are not supposed to do rather than what you are supposed to do. You should not be egotistical, and you should be trying to focus on being of help to others.
- At the junior level, a good leader should try to be bold and bring solutions instead of just problems to their boss.
