[07:16] – What are some common issues that organisations come to you to help them address?

  • The common issues in general are kinds of clashing values and kinds of trade offs that if we do this, then the shareholder won’t make as much money.
  • It’s often an inconsistency with individuals, because ethics is very human as it’s about behaviour.
  • It’s a real opportunity for people to look at the processes that they have within their environment and if they are creating an environment where they’re causing people to do things and have outcomes that are no longer appealing to the organisation.
  • An ethical issue is an opportunity to correct something to create good.

[13:20] – How does culture impact ethics?

  • Ethics are your values and your principles.
  • Your values have developed a lot through your moral understanding of the world, which has come from your family, your school or your community.
  • It’s important to recognise the impact of culture on your behaviour.
  • Understand “moral injury,” which means you are behaving in a way that is opposed to your values.
  • It is best to embrace cultural differences because it brings different perspectives.
  • It’s the drive behind the diversity and inclusion movement.
