Overview

Today on The Brand Called You, we bring you a professional from the investment and finance field. He has abundant experience and a strong but unique transition from law to real estate. We are pleased to welcome Brian Adams.

Brian is the President and Founder of Excelsior Capital. He spearheads capital markets and investor relations and is a former practicing attorney. Brian has served on several boards.

In a very interesting conversation with our host, Brian shares his journey of working in two very different fields. And how private equity and real estate investments have changed over the years.

About Excelsior Capital:

Brian shares the story of his venture Excelsior Capital and explains the work scope.

“It is an iteration of a company that I started 11 years ago and it is a syndication platform based in Nashville Tennessee. When I mean syndication, we raise capital on a deal-by-deal basis to a network of individuals and families investing into commercial real estate. Which for us can mean anything from office to industrial to flex, medical retail etc. But fundamentally we’re trying to solve three problems that we see our investor base having:

  • one is access to good quality direct co-investments
  • two is solving for some kind of yield component. People are looking for passive income so we try to achieve double-digit cash on cash yield annualized that we distribute monthly.
  • And then we only work with taxable investors.”

He also shares the challenges faced while setting up his venture.

Further Brian and Ashutosh converse on traditional investments. And how the focus of investments has shifted from gold and land to real estate and private equity. Brian explains the meaning of long-term private equity.

He talks about the key metrics of investments and the impact of global markets on the US Real estate market. Brian believes that capital should be allocated on not only a risk-adjusted basis but also time adjusted basis.

As the world is turning over on the ideas of the Millenials and Gen Z, Brian throws light on the changes these generations have brought about in the investment landscape.

His experiences are backed by his strong background in law and he functions on the values of transparency and hard work.
