Overview
Coaching as a profession has come a long way. It is considered to be contributive to our growth and development. With time, more and more people are realising the vitality of coaching. The business sector has grown to hire more and more executive coaches for CEO’s to function at their best potential.
About Alisa:
Today TBCY welcomes a successful coach and a leader who is determined to help people find the best in themselves. We are pleased to welcome Alisa Cohn.
Alisa is a C-Suite Executive Coach. She is in the Top 100 Leadership Speakers in the US and the World. She is a Top Startup Coach in the World and No.1 Global Guru for Startups. Alisa is also the author of a forthcoming book titled ‘From Startup to Grown-up’.
In this conversation with Ashutosh, Alisa takes us on an informative journey on coaching and its relevance in the modern world.
Coaching C-Suite Leaders vs Coaching Emerging leaders
Coaching is a very subjective concept. The journey and the experiences of a coaching process is very different for different individuals.
Similarly when it comes to leadership, coaching is a very wide concept. Different leaders have differing needs and it is the duty of the coach to figure out what exactly the coachee needs. There is an exceptional difference between coaching a C-Suite Leader/CEO and coaching an emerging leader.
When asked about this difference Alisa responds,
“I think the difference is scope and scale. So when I’m coaching a C-suite leader what that means is, think about the impact that they have in the organization all around them.
When I’m coaching an emerging leader, the impact is more immediate on this person. Helping this person grow their leadership more quickly so their leadership trajectory is steeper but their impact tends to be just less.”
When does one need a coach?
As a coach herself, Alisa explains that it is never too early to have a coach. One can hire a coach for various different reasons and in various different phases of life.
Coaches help realise the clients their true potential and abilities. So any person looking to develop themselves impactfully and at any stage, should definitely hire a coach.
“It’s really about this helping you establish- where are you, where are you going and how are you going to get there? So if you are in the swim, in the thinking system of thinking about – how am I going to fast forward my impact, how am I going to fast forward my development, how am I going to fast forward my ability to make a difference- that is a great time to hire a coach”
The Millennials and Gen Z:
The world is evolving on the ideas of the newer generation. The millennials and Gen Z are changing the world for good and coaching is something they at, very positively. However, coaching the new generation needs a different and new approach as they are extremely aware of what they want.
Alisa strongly believes that coaches need to adapt to the style of the Millenials and Gen Z in order to understand them better.
“I think very often younger generation might need shorter bursts, just in time experiences and something which is more almost like a little packaged in a way little power moments as opposed to long sessions together”
