Let’s find out with our guest Dr. Mukund Rajan.

How relevant is the ESG to the corporate sector?

Dr. Rajan informs us that environmental social governance is of utmost relevance to the corporate sector. Large and small firms become huge contributors to greenhouse gas emissions in our country making India the third-largest producer of greenhouse gases after China and the USA.

“The Indian corporate sector, I think has a huge responsibility to play its part in trying to address some of the genesis of global warming and climate change, in particular, reducing its carbon emissions.”

Dr. Rajan then talks about the impact of mid and small businesses on our environment and how they have become our new big players in producing carbon emissions. He then shares some hard facts about how India is dealing with the issue of global warming. We are still in the talking phase of planning about these issues, while developed countries have had the opportunity to build awareness about environmental issues much earlier than us.

Businesses that are thoughtful of the sustainability of their products and packaging are on the track of becoming favorable companies to investors and buyers. There is a shift in the mindset of an average consumer in the whole world. Dr. Rajan also talks about how millennials are changing the environmental situation by being more conscious about the sustainability and the environmental impact of their activities.
