Overview

Television was very different from what it is today. A few years back, nobody could fathom the vision of releasing movies on OTTs but covid helped fastrack that evolution. From being one of the visionaries in the Television industry to creating SustainChain, Jacqueline and Joanna have done a lot of transformational work. Today, we talk to them about how they transformed the television industry and what they are doing with SustainChain.

About Jacqueline Corbelli

  • Jacqueline Corbelli is a transformational leader that drives positive business growth and societal change.
  • She tackles issues that redefine industry verticals, reshapes culture, and rebuilds communities.
  • As the CEO, Founder, and Chairman of BrightLine, Jacqueline built and continues to lead a technology software company that ushered in the reinvention of television advertising from thirty-second interrupting commercials to immersive, interactive units. BrightLine is a cornerstone of advanced TV advertising and interactive content for all of America’s leading broadcasters, including NBCU, ABC/Disney, CBS, and Fox, among others.
  • What drew her to advanced TV advertising was the sweeping change to business models being ushered in by the Internet and digital technologies.
  • As an astute executive, having leveraged this same wave in the financial industry, she saw the prospect that shifting consumer behaviors held for media and brands and the opportunity to put her executional change management and technical innovation skills to work to help redefine the relationship between the two.

16:03 – What were three or four key lessons that allowed you to make this startup what it is?

  • One of the biggest learnings was that you should keep your eyes on the horizon and work on the micro level but keeping your vision intact.
  • You need to have humility and be very confident in your vision and in yourself in order to persuade other people to go on with you.
  • Third lesson I would point out is relationships. Build a lot of good relationships and deliver what you say. Also, trust is very important, and it goes both ways. Keep trustworthy people around you and keep the trust of the people that trust you.

27:11 – How did you integrate yourself with other people?

  • I had zero experience in technology, but I was very curious about learning everything. I ended up being the mediator between the employers and employees.
  • Big firms like Vanguard and BlackRock don’t want to work with smart engineers. They want someone to get to know their skill set and be able to productize them.
  • So, I became the bridge between the Innovation Studio and other firms to get them the talent they needed and then brought that experience to BrightLine.

44:54 – How do you differentiate against other tools?

  • This is mainly built by and for the sustainability community. Our algorithms are actually guided by helping this community achieve their desired outcomes.
  • It is vetted for those individuals that are really doing the work and using the platform for mainly work.
  • It is also about action. I speak with folks every day that use other platforms like WhatsApp and slack, but they are coming on board with us as well. They are finding that our platform is mainly for action rather than conversation.

57:08 – What is your business model for continuity?

  • We want to keep it strictly vetted, so we are not yet getting into advertising so that greenwashing is not a factor.
  • We are planning to begin by asking people to donate whatever they want to depend on the value they get from our community.
  • Even though this is a non-profit right now, at some point we are going to have to make it transactional where people will pay to transact with other members because they will get value from them ultimately.
