Discussion

What brought her to coaching?

Being the oldest child in her family, Tracy says, she has always been into coaching telling people what to do. When she stepped up into the leadership role in her corporate career, there too women came to her asking for guidance. This led her to be a professional coach and do what she had been doing already officially.

She says that she didn’t have any plan to become  an entrepreneur as such, but while she left the company to find a role as an HR head, things played out in different ways and brought her to a different direction. And finally she figured out a way to do what she loves.

What are the challenges that women of colour face that you work with?

There are many challenges that women face. The biggest of which is being seen as valuable. As Tracy says, “When you’re the only woman in the organisation sitting at the high levels, especially if you are the only black woman sitting at the table, as I often was, many times you’re not seen. “ And that’s what Tracy helps women solve, she helps them solve this issue and find a way to get their voice heard in the organisation.

Tracy agrees that though there has been some awakening in the minds of people, there are  still biases and stereotypes toward women of colour that need to be overcome. According to Tracy, it would take time as  “It takes a lot to change culture”.
