- Māori culture is the cultural practices, customs, and beliefs of the indigenous Māori people of New Zealand.
- It originated from and is still part of, Eastern Polynesian culture. Māori culture forms a distinctive part of New Zealand culture and, due to a large diaspora and the incorporation of Māori motifs into popular culture, it is found throughout the world.
- The Māori language known as te reo Māor Te Reo was originally only an oral language. Instead of literature & books, they passed stories down through legends, songs, and myths.
- Haka, or ancestral war cry, is a worldwide known ceremonial dance
- or challenge. It is performed to show a tribe’s pride, unity, and strength.
- The Māori make up 14 per cent of the total population in New Zealand, and their traditions are a crucial part of the authentic “Kiwi” culture and history.
