00:09- About Henrik Skovby

  • Henrik Skovby is the founder and chairman of Dalberg Group.
  • He is the Executive Chairman of Nordic Development Corporation.
  • He has made impactful contributions and changed the world in many positive ways.

11:05- Can you talk about the experiences in the United Nations Development Program and McKinsey and how that helped shape you as well?

  • At the UN, I learned to look at effectiveness holistically rather than just efficiency, evaluating broader impacts like facilitating dialogue and avoiding wars, giving me a systemic perspective.
  • At McKinsey, I developed strong structured problem-solving methods and learned the value of teamwork, with the best ideas winning regardless of seniority.
  • Both experiences taught me to step back from the micro details, understand the full context of what’s in front of me, and make decisions from that broad, systemic viewpoint.

42:27- Is there anything more you want to say about the future? And then also your last recommendations you want to give to the audience?

  • I believe the current market economy model is flawed, where companies produce goods with negative externalities that governments have to address. Instead, companies should strive to benefit the planet and create long-term value for all when producing.
  • As business leaders, we need to challenge how businesses operate and take responsibility for creating products that don’t harm people (e.g. contributing to obesity) or the environment. The world should become a better place with every unit produced.
  • My advice is to reflect on what true success in life means – is it just wealth/status or finding fulfilment in our life’s work like my mother did as a teacher? We should redefine success for ourselves and for the future, we are building together as a society.
