01:00- Who has the most significant impact on you?

  • My childhood upbringing in my grandfather’s house inspired me to write. I was adopted by my grandfather as he had no son, only three daughters.
  • My grandfather was a learned person and had many books around me since my early childhood. Additionally, the deeply religious atmosphere within my family had a profound influence on me. The oral traditions of Bhakti poets have left an indelible impact on my life.
  • In Asia, we have this great Guru tradition. But a Guru can only evoke the Muse lurching in the dark corner of the mind of the poet to be.
  • My family, especially my late mother, remains a constant source of inspiration for me to write.

09:10- What are you hoping to communicate with the readers?

  • I wrote poems about the Himalayas and published a book, Folk Tales of Sherpa and Yeti.
  • I started travelling in the Himalayas where I found my element and wrote poems to celebrate the mountains. I decided to write about the Himalayas because most of the poets are writing about their ethnic identities or political troubles.
  • Nepal, like many other countries, has faced despotic and ruthless rulers in the past. With the advent of democracy, one would expect the content of poets to change. However, poets in Nepal have continued to embrace the old vibes.

23:15- Lessons from the conversation.

  • Writing is a forbidden path, a tough road to take.
  • Be committed, passionate, and find your voice.
  • Have an open heart and a sense of belonging.
