Overview

Family forums, inspired by the transformative principles of professional forums, provide a sacred space where relatives engage in structured, confidential conversations, fostering trust, resilience, and open communication. In this episode of The Brand Called You, Dr Amir Kfir shares some very interesting insights into the application of Forum principles in a family setting.

00:33- About Dr. Amir Kfir

  • Dr. Amir Kfir is the owner and CEO of Amirror Group Organizational Development.
  • He is an organizational consultant and management change leader.
  • Amir has been associated with the YPO for many years.

01:12- What is a forum and how can it benefit an individual?

  • A forum is a group of people between 8 to 10, that meet regularly, often once a month, but sometimes can have different formats of frequencies, like in a retreat format.
  • They come together to learn from each other, be able to get feedback, and create a setup that they can truly open and bring out their vulnerability. Ultimately, not only grow intellectually and spiritually but also grow in the tightness of their relationship.
  • They develop the strongest ties that we know of groups that exist. And that happens under an umbrella of confidentiality, which means that nothing comes out of that room.

07:09- How does the Family Forum handle differences in levels of respect and hierarchical relationships?

  •  A family is a complex system of multi-systems that have their unique confidentiality. There is a certain level of trust that we need to have but that doesn’t mean that there are no boundaries.
  • We’re teaching them to lay off rank, to remove authority, and to look at each other as unique individuals that we engage with, and not tell them what to do. Don’t patronise and don’t assume that we know better than them.
  • The sooner that you can relinquish the notion that you need to control and have that power within every interaction, the sooner you will secure a seat around the table with your grandchildren.
