Human resources (HR) is the division of a business that is charged with finding, screening, recruiting, and training job applicants, as well as administering employee-benefit programs. HR plays a key role in helping companies deal with a fast-changing business environment and a greater demand for quality employees in the 21st century. Melinda Wolfe, Former Chief People Officer, HR Consultant, and Executive Coach is here to talk to us about Human Resources.

01:11- How has the human resources leadership or function evolved over the decades?

  • It’s evolved dramatically.
  • The chief hr officer is really at the heart of leadership and at the heart of the business strategy as it relates to people because all businesses are based on who their people are and the person who’s in charge of making that experience great has a huge impact.
  • Today the role of the chief hr officer is more strategic.
  • It’s more infused with an obligation to look at the diversity and equity implications of every part of the process of leading people.

04:27- How do you define culture?

  • Culture is very ephemeral.
  • It is an amalgam of a lot of things,
  • It is a reflection of the people at the top and what the top leader does.
  • It is also a reflection of the behaviors of people in a company and the values of that company but also the behaviors when no one’s looking.
