Founding Netcompany AS
André reveals that he was never into the IT field before 1981. He was willing to study history and psychology.
In the year 1981, he accidentally touched a computer. He tells us that since he likes gaming and could not afford to go to the arcade every time, he decided to read the manual and started programming a car racing game on the computer. At that time he realized that computers are going to change our lives soon. His interest in IT was ignited after that and he decided to study computer science after completing high school.
After getting the degree, André couldn’t find a satisfactory job. He started working in a global consultancy where he was programming and building systems. While working there he realized that business people noted the IT people as doers and themselves as thinkers. Netcompany AS came into existence as a reaction towards the classic way of dividing business and IT.
André tells us that from the very beginning, they at Netcompany wanted to solve complex business and societal issues with the help of IT. They wanted to ease the trade and export-import for businesses. They also wanted to work for health, tax, and other sectors of government functions and provide transparency in them. André believed that digitization is the right means to do that.
André compares Netcompany with a music band where they have an urge to play instruments together. He believes that Netcompany is a technical band where instead of producing music, they produce societal and business systems. André tells us that Netcompany has reinvented the way of delivering IT, doing it faster and more agility.
What made André realize the potential of digitalization decades ago?
When André was introduced to the computers, he was impressed by the potential it held. He initially thought that computers can really help businesses to create stronger systems and connections to strengthen business processes. However, when the browser and the internet came into existence in the 90s, André understood that it will go beyond businesses and connect people faster than anything else.
When he started Netcompany, he knew that IT and other technology will change the world entirely.
Does André not work with the people who do not satisfy his mission?
André tells us that seldom does he meet clients that are willing to create a better world. Most of the people he meets do not have an end goal. André likes to work with people who have the vision to move forward. He also says that if he has to choose between the client who pays well and who has the vision to create better solutions, he goes with the latter.
This is also applicable to his employees. André tells us that he makes sure that his employees are not only good at their job but also want to work for the mission.
Be it the clients or the employees of the company, André likes to work with people with the right attitude and personality.
Does André seek help from coaches and mentors when he needs it?
André believes that the future is ahead of us and we should not paralyze it by losing focus. This is why he surrounds himself with good people who have more life energy than him and have that way of looking at life.
Advice to the younger generation
André believes that the younger generation needs to focus extensively on two things. He says that:
- You need to make sure that you are very good at what they are doing. Don’t underestimate yourself, if you are really good at something, that is your entrance ticket.
- Be brave in how you are going to use that strong field of yours.
