Podcast
Overview
As a society, we often proclaim the right to education, work, and choice for everyone and to avoid discrimination based on gender, race, colour, etc. But when it comes to the LGBTQIA community, the same society fears something and often takes a step back. It is essential to understand that anyone’s sexual orientation is his/her personal space, and we ought to respect and accept the same. No one’s sexual inclination ought to interfere in his/her social world and thus, efforts need to be taken to educate, accept and promote inclusion.

- It is an organisation to enable people, especially youngsters, to recognise and accept their sexuality.
- We work to enable them to understand between the gender and sexuality part of it.
- We offer a safe space to talk about what you feel, how you feel, and how to deal without getting into what people will say or think.
[04:00] – How have you seen societal acceptance change towards the LGBTQIA community?
- Earlier, people treated it as a curse.
- Now, parents are talking openly about it, accepting it, and changing their language patterns to address their children.
[07:24] – Do you see open conversation beginning to happen in our country?
- In COVID, I reached 350 LGBTQIA communities across India. During the conversations, I was in their houses talking about emotional and mental well-being.
- When they start with HRT, hormonal replacement therapy, there are a lot of ups-downs. It is not necessary that all endocrinologists or doctors are going to be available. But at this time, they require support as your body and mental state are going through a lot of processes.
[10:00] – What can be done in the corporate world to improve acceptance, and where does accountability lie?
- Pronouns of identification are very important to people in the LGBTQIA community. Him/her is important, and we need to understand that.
- Empathy is very important, and then comes respect for each other’s personal space.
- The most important is to stop shaming anyone in the society, caste, religion, body, or gender.
