03:52- What in your view are some common challenges that organisations in the Caribbean face when it comes to HR and how do they overcome these challenges?

  • It is less common to see HR at the C-suite table making big decisions about business strategy and competitive advantage.
  • To overcome this challenge, HR practitioners need to show that we understand the business and speak the language of business, before seeking to be understood.
  • We should seek first to understand the business and business strategy, then we can talk to our C-suite partners about how we can bring the people along to help them execute successfully on the strategy.

17:50- What advice would you have for young HR professionals aspiring to become leaders in their field, based on your own journey?

  • For anyone aspiring to be a leader, it’s very important, for you to ensure that you do the hard and necessary work to inspire confidence in others because you can only lead if people are willing to follow.
  • You need to establish your credibility and ensure that you do the hard and necessary work to be the best at your craft.
  • If you want to lead others, you have to show that you care for others – for people to be committed to you, they have to believe in you and the vision that you’re asking them to work towards.
