- I started my journey in pharmaceutical industrial sales.
- The first round of the pharmaceutical industry that way back in 1995.
- I, therefore, went over to serve in numerous leadership roles in top pharma and medical devices companies spread across India, China, and the Asia Pacific region for almost 25 years.
01:35- What is the meaning of Sajhi Mitti?
- Sajhi Mitti is a Hindi word that means ‘Shared Earth’.
- It is our business model as well as the concept of doing agriculture.
02:02- Work of Sajhi Mitti and motivation behind starting the venture
- My motivation was very simple, it was the opportunity, the sheer size of the opportunities was just massive.
- Almost 70 percent of Indians are into agriculture.
- The opportunity to create social impact, and the ability to create a climate impact, one of the biggest problems that our planet is facing today through agriculture is enormous.
- We help marginalized farmers move towards regenerative agriculture and therefore produce the healthiest of crops.
- We help urban families consume this healthy produce.
06:04- What goes into farming turmeric, and what are the roles that you play?
- We do value ads at two levels. One is at the growing. Now, growing of turmeric using chemicals is a very different kind of process.
- Growing the turmeric using regenerative farming is a totally different construct.
- We believe that nature has all the nutrition available for the plants in the nature itself.
- We train the trainer. We have a mandate to cover about fifty thousand farmers across Maharashtra.
- We train 50 farmers, handhold them for one year, they become expert trainers, and then they handle 50 further.
09:09- Organic Farming vs. Regenerative Farming
- Organic farming essentially does not use external chemical fertilizers and pesticides, but they still use organic pesticides, and organic fertilizers, and it’s a problem in itself.
- In our regenerative farming, we essentially regenerate the soil, hence the name regenerative farming, and it requires no external inputs, not even organic fertilizers, pesticides.
