Also a famous author, Alex talks about his book “Grow The Pie” with The Brand Called You.
His book was featured in the Financial Times list of Business Books of the Year for 2020. Alex explains the meaning of growing the pie for our viewers. He explains that the book is about the purpose and social responsibility for the business.
“So, the pie is the value that a company creates and people think it can either be given to investors in the form of profits or society in the form of fair wages and fair prices and we often think that responsibility is at the expense of profit so the company chooses to be responsible. It’s giving up part of the pie and therefore reducing the slice that investors take.
But in fact, what I’m arguing is that well if a company chooses to serve its workers and serve the customers it actually grows the pie and therefore investors become better off. For example, by paying higher wages, providing meaningful training, and work to your employees they become more motivated and more productive…Companies that serve society, in the long term, end up being more successful.”
Alex shares how companies become successful by giving back to the community and society. He shares multiple examples of companies such as Vodafone, Mercedes, that have achieved success by sharing their talents and services with the community.
Tune in to this episode and learn how corporations should work on their social responsibility.
