Overview

History is such an important subject and plays a very vital role when it comes to shaping our society. History is the study of past events. We refer to the past when comparing it with the present times and deduce the changes that have taken place. These actions of the past also shape our future actions. Therefore, history plays a vital role in preparing us for the future. Emmanuel Kulu, Founder, Ancient African Antiquities Research Institute of America (AAARIA) talks to us about the same.

00:34- About Emmanuel Kulu

01:06- About Ancient African Antiquities Research Institute of America

  • As an African historian, my father is from Cameroon, and my mother’s from Chicago, which is the heart of the civil rights movement.
  • My father always instilled in me these great African groups to be able to bridge the gap between African Americans and Africans.
  • I decided to start educating on a different level, spreading knowledge that I had from self-study from travel from my heritage to Ancient Africa.
  • Our goal is to restore and replenish the history that has been tarnished and actually create a new understanding of world history.

06:55- What have been some of your challenges when you have been trying to explore the need to change the way history has been written?

  • The challenge is you have a system in place, so this is difficult when you’re talking about people’s careers.
  • They have whitewashed Ancient Egypt in many other parts of Northern Africa.

09:28- What was the role colonization played across the entire world to alter some of these historical facts?

  • The key point is to make you forget your history, your tribe, and your understanding of who you were in order to be able to reshape yourself.
  • Ancient African kingdoms were ruled by royal families.
  • When these families and these priests and these leaders were either exiled or murdered it left the kingdom-wide open for a new regime to come in.
  • You start to see how colonization was a way to change the mind frame of understanding that what you have here is not as great as what we had up in Europe.

19:29- Life lessons

  • Stand on what you believe in. When you’re trying to change something, it brings a lot of fear to the table.  When you stand for change understand there’s going to be few that stand with you but stand on your moral stand on what you believe and if you stand on it long enough and endure it will create strength in you.
