Overview

Unlike before, schools, colleges, and the workplace today are focusing on creating an inclusive environment to provide equal opportunities to people with mental or physical disabilities. But there’s still a long way to go to spread the concept of inclusivity and diversity to every individual. People with disabilities go through different kinds of hardships, one among which is accepting they are different and getting acceptance from others.

In today’s episode of TBCY, we are extremely delighted to have Karen Mangia with us. She is the Salesforce Executive & Wall Street Journal Best Selling Author.

  • In my role as VP of Customer and Market Insights at Salesforce, I engage with key customer accounts and collaborate to develop innovative strategies to address their key business challenges.
  • I help translate feedback into actions to increase customer retention, growth, and satisfaction.

01:12- About her journey

  • I have always loved storytelling. When I think about the true north star of my career it’s really storytelling and customer engagement and advocacy.

02:30- About Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

  • Often the culture enforces the skill of blending rather than belonging.
  • We reward the skill of becoming masterfully adaptable.
  • The reality is we can never make our highest contribution, realize our potential, or feel good about living in our purpose and our contribution to the world if we’re just trying to be like someone else.

13:13- Impact of Culture on Inclusion

  • Culture is critically important and that could be the culture of the community where we live, the culture of the team where we work, and the culture of the organization that shares our paycheck.
  • Culture is really personality, culture is how it feels to be here.
  • How does it feel to walk around inside the culture of your company and how easy is it for people to access what they need to feel a part of that community.
  • We are looking for our companies to be places of belonging, contribution, and caring.

21:46- Three lessons

  • Success is an outcome that you define. Success is not a Destination, location, title, balance in your bank account, what your parents want you to do, or what your significant other wants you to do.
  • The better you are, the more you can contribute, and along the way, that contribution, enjoy your life more.
  • Connect and be generous.
