Overview

Our guest for today, Swapan Seth, is a very accomplished man. He has once been the youngest creative director in the history of Indian advertising. On the professional front, he is a brand conductor, a communication creator, think influencer marketer, marketing advisor etc. He is also a columnist. His hobbies include traveling, writing travelogues and other stuff, collecting art and different kinds of wine, etc.

Swapan’s perspective on eulogy virtues.

Swapan tells us about a girl who he hardly knew. She posted about Swapan on her Instagram story that she really likes what he writes. Swapan felt good about it. He says that eulogy virtues is something that defines us and that is one thing we should care about at the end of the day. He also recalls that he and his brother used to ask him what should be the five words on his tombstone, to which Swapan replied that they should be ‘he was a nice guy’.

Swapan’s experience with Martin Sorrell and Ranjan Kapoor

Swapan very enthusiastically says that Martin Sorrell is the finest, fairest and kindest man he knows. He tells his experiences with Martin to back his answer. We are told that Sorrell isn’t Martin’s real surname, Martin’s father saw a book named ‘Sorrell and Sons’ and decided to change his name to Sorrell. As Swapan got to know about this, he tried to look for the book but could not find it. To help Swapan, Martin asked his assistant to give Swapan his copy of that book. Talking about Ranjan Kapoor, Swapan says that he always had Ranjan’s back. He feels honoured that he could speak at his memorial among so many people after he passed away.

What made Swapan teach curiosity?

Swapan says that he tries to learn 3 new things everyday, making 1095 new things a year and 32000 new things in 30 years. He does this because of his curiosity. He says that curiosity is a gift to humankind. He further says that he loves children and finds it very easy to talk to them. So he decided to give lectures in his children’s school. So he taught them about many things out of the curriculum which they highly enjoyed and appreciated.

‘That is all I have to say’

Swapan tells us that he just poured his heart out and wrote his perspective on different shades of life. He wasn’t planning to bind it in a book or to publish it. One day one of his friends asked him to publish it as a book but he was still doubtful. The book got published and got a great response from the public. He received immense love for it. He wasn’t planning to write any further so he named his book ‘That’s all I have to say’. However, he has changed his mind and his second book is going to be published soon.

Motivation behind collecting art

Swapan says that he is into advertising, he is into designs all day so art automatically attracts him. He tells us that he was fond of collecting art but did not have enough money. That was the time when two of his friends introduced him to inexpensive art. Gradually, he built a huge collection of art. He believes that one should collect for his age. The art he collected was all inspired by technology.

What made Swapan move to the hills?

Swapan believes he is an antisocial person. His work also did not require him to socialize with his clients hence the socializing element did not develop into him much. He keeps telling people that he just needs two things in his life that are his wife and wifi. So he decided to move to the hills but could not as his mother wasn’t well. However, he is planning to move to the hills again.

Who and what inspires Swapan?

Swapan says that he is inspired by everyone. He tells us that every night he stalks people and learns from them. He is an inspiration seeker. He watches inspirational videos, reads inspirational texts. He says he is very clear about what he doesn’t need to know in his life. It clears the path for what he needs to know in his life and he gets on the right track.

Swapan’s perspective on success and failure

In Swapan’s words, “Success and Failure are the best friends. Unknown to you and me they meet every evening and talk”. He believes that success’ greatest failure is pride and failure’s biggest success is humility. He has never asked his children for their report cards and they have turned out pretty fine. In his opinion, we should learn to treat success and failure in the same way and we are good to go.
