Overview
Athletes usually have short careers if compared to corporate jobs. They need to be very efficient in monetizing their brand if they want to earn good money and if they want to stay relevant in the industry. With so much changing in the blockchain industry, athletes now have a very vast range of products such as NFTs through which they can build their brand and earn from it. Today we talk to Grant Sapkin about how he is helping young athletes build their brand and monetize it.
00:32 – About Grant Sapkin
- Grant Sapkin is a 25-year-old entrepreneur who is the Founder & CEO of BurrstSports which helps student-athletes monetize their brand in the NFT/Web3 space.
- Burrst’s mission is to help 10,000+ student-athletes in the emerging Web3 and NIL space.
- His entrepreneurial journey started when he learned about Network Marketing at just 15 years old.
- Since then Grant became attracted to personal growth and experienced drop-shipping, the sneaker/clothing industry, affiliate marketing, and even Forex trading.
01:18 – Tell me about BurrstSports
- It was founded in December 2021 with the mission of helping young athletes monetize their NIL which is their name, image, and likeness.
- We have two new industries emerging. One is NIL which is a year old and the other is Web 3 which is now booming because of all the NFTs and blockchains.
- The core mission is to really help young athletes realize the potential of their brand early on in their careers so that they can make the most out of it.
07:05 – What do you mean by your quote “Feel the fear and Do it anyway”?
- I got this quote from one of my mentors and I think it’s one of the most practical quotes to live by. Life is hard and if you go on about your life ignoring its fear you might end up nowhere.
- We were taught to follow this quote on the field. Fear is an emotion and everyone feels it at certain times. We should acknowledge it and get the task done anyway.
- This is also applicable in life and in entrepreneurship and everything broadly because nothing worth achieving comes easy. So, it’s better to understand the emotion, accept it and be courageous enough to get the task done anyway.
13:48 – How can the athletes monetize their work?
- The first thing that young athletes need to do is to become open-minded about it. So even if they do not want to become a professional they can still keep the relationship.
- They should learn more and more about Web 3 and really understand that there is more than one revenue stream if they want to earn good money.
- Our focus is to help the athletes that are really interested in working with us. It doesn’t matter if they have a big brand or if they have a small brand. We want to level the playing field and help anybody who wants to work with us.
