[00:33] – About Peter Shankman

  • Peter is an entrepreneur and a futurist in residence at BluShark.

[05:03] – Tell me about BluShark Digital. What is your role?

  • BluShark is a marketing and SEO company in Washington DC that primarily works with lawyers and doctors.
  • They are known to be bad at marketing, and there is a huge market for them to get better.
  • My role is not to think about what is happening in the next quarter. It is about what is happening in the next quarter-century.
  • For instance, there are law firms whose function is to handle car accidents. What happens in 20 years, when car accidents drop by 98 percent because of self-driving vehicles? If you are an insurance company that insures cars, what do you do? 90% of organ donations come from fatal car accidents.
  • If you are a hospital, you need to be thinking about 3d printing and use it to print organs.

[13:17] – With so much focus on artificial intelligence, what will technology do to your role of looking at the future?

  • Over the years, we have underestimated the intelligence of computers and overestimated the intelligence of people.
  • I remember being on the internet in 1987 with all that information on computers Now we have it on our phones. And what do we use it for? To argue with people?
  • We are too quick to be emotional and rush to a judgment.
  • AI does not get emotional. Until it sues emotion, we are smarter than it, as we can put emotion into things when ended.
